UK port volumes drop 3% in 2016 to total 473.5 mt
The UK's major seaports saw cargo volumes decline 3% in 2016 to 473.5 million tonnes (mt) compared with the previous year. In the fourth quarter, UK ports handled 117.2 mt of freight, down 4% year on year, according to data from the UK Department for Transport. Import volumes decreased by 2% to 73.3 mt in the fourth quarter, while export tonnage fell by 7% year on year to 43.9 mt.
