Jaigarh Port inaugurates Edible Oil Terminal
Jaigarh Port inaugurated its Edible Oil Terminal on August 17, 2017. The occasion also marked the maiden call of edible oil carrier MT Zao Galaxy.
The strategic location of Jaigarh Port, between the two Major Ports of Mumbai and Goa, gives it the advantage of servicing the vast hinterland of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Jaigarh Port partnered with West India Continental Oil & Fats Private Limited (WICOF) and Narendra Forwarders Private Limited for handling the first edible oil cargo at the port.
The maiden vessel, MT Zao Galaxy, a Handymax with LOA 159.03 m and beam 27.10 m, carried a parcel of 3,000 MT onboard from Padang, Indonesia. The vessel was berthed on arrival and cargo discharge operations were completed in 11 hours.
The new Edible Oil Terminal has a tankage capacity of over 16,800 KL with provision for adding more tanks in future. The unloading rate of the terminal is around 400 MT per hour. It has 3 pumps for tanker loading and 2 booster pumps having capacity of 400 m3 per hour.
Commented Capt. BVJK Sharma, JMD and CEO, JSWIL: "We are delighted to welcome WICOF’s edible oil vessel to Jaigarh Port and to inaugurate our new Edible Oil Terminal. The arrival of MT Zao Galaxy is an indicator of Jaigarh Port’s continuous track record of operational excellence and diversification into the liquid cargo space. We are continuously improving our liquid cargo handling facilities at Jaigarh Port and will be creating additional berths for handling crude, POL and chemical cargoes in the near future."
