Leipzig-Halle airport 2016 cargo volume rises 6.5% to 1.1 mt

Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany handled 1.05 million tonnes (mt) of air freight in 2016, an increase of 6.5% compared to 2015, and got off to a good start in the new year.

Operated by Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, Leipzig/Halle airport saw cargo volumes rise by 6.9% year on year in January to 84,782 tonnes.

In December last year the airport handled an all-time monthly high of 97,105 tonnes of cargo.

DHL Express has based its European air cargo hub at the airport, which is Europe's fifth-busiest and Germany's second-biggest air freight gateway, and contributes heavily to Leipzig/Halle's overall cargo throughput.
