The flight path for Air India's future may be drawn as early as next month.

With finance minister Arun Jaitley saying the government is open to disinvesting in the airline, the aviation ministry will this week begin internal deliberations on the issue.

Apart from this, the Niti Aayog is also learnt to be in advance stages of finalising its recommendations for the debt-ridden Maharaja.

Jet Airways announces special fares on select domestic routes 24 May 2017

Jet Airways has announced all-inclusive economy class fares on select domestic sectors.

The sale is valid on tickets booked between May 24 and 26 for travel between June 15 and September 20. Chennai-Coimbatore (INR 1,079, all-inclusive), Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Delhi-Jaipur and are some of the routes available on the sale.

The airline’s low-cost competitor also has a special fare scheme running for the airline’s twelfth anniversary.

GMR Hyderabad airport to see INR 2,500 cr capacity expansion 23 May 2017

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited is poised for a capital expenditure of about INR 2,500 crore towards expansion of the greenfiled airport from the present capacity to handle 12 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 20 mppa.

The airport is already functioning at more than its capacity to handle about a million passengers a month with 2016 witness to over 15 million passengers, registering a growth of over 20% in a calendar year.

The Hyderabad airport is in the process of finalising its expansion project that would enhance the capacity to 20 million passengers a year.

IndiGo to launch daily non-stop flight between Singapore and Bengaluru 23 May 2017

IndiGo has introduced a daily non-stop flight between Singapore and Bengaluru.

Effective June 30, IndiGo will operate a direct flight between Singapore-Bengaluru. With this flyers can book tickets at an affordable round trip fare of Rs 14,242.

Sanjay Kumar, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said that “In continuing to strengthen its network in the Asia-Pacific region, IndiGo, the largest and fastest growing low-cost carrier, will operate its first non-stop flight and fifth overall flight between Singapore and Bengaluru.”

Trujet to extend network to Mumbai & Shirdi 18 May 2017

Trujet will now be able to start flights to Mumbai, Shirdi and some more cities.

This follows the airline being given the Air Operators' Certificate in the Scheduled Commuter Category.

Incidentally, Trujet's is the first AOC under the SCC, which has been issued by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation.

A senior official of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation said, "Earlier, being a scheduled regional airline, Trujet could not operate to metros of other regions. Under the SCO category, they can operate to metros of other regions also.”

SriLankan Airlines to add Hyderabad, Vizag, Coimbatore to its network 18 May 2017

SriLankan Airlines will be adding three southern Indian cities of Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam to its network while further strengthening its network from July this year.

The introduction of these new routes, along with the scheduled frequency increases in its Delhi and Mumbai services, will see SriLankan operating over 120 flights a week to 14 cities.

Hyderabad International airport aims at 100% LED lighting systems 17 May 2017

Hyderabad International Airport Limited has converted the entire Taxiway Edge Lights from halogen lamps to energy efficient LED.

Of the 26,000 conventional lamps, the airport has managed to convert more than 19,500 have been converted into LED, saving 2.2 Million Units of electricity per annum, it informed in s statement.

The airport is on its green journey of transforming itself into a 100% LED Airport, out which 75% of the work has been already completed.

The airport currently caters to more than 15 Million Passengers Per Annum with close to 400 daily air traffic movements, requires consistent supply of electricity to operate round the clock.

Air India plans to expand in North-East 17 May 2017

Air India plans to expand its network in the North-East as it seeks to tap into passenger demand following government’s push for regional connectivity.

The Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani will visit three north-eastern states next month to review operations in the region.

Lohani said, “We are focussed on increasing connectivity to the North-East by injecting more flights of our Airbus and Turboprop aircraft.”

He is likely to survey several airports in the region to increase frequency, add new routes and, if required, discontinue non—profitable ones. It will be Lohani’s first visit to the region in his capacity...

Air India to fly Boeing 747-400 aircraft on Kabul route 15 May 2017

Air India will operate Boeing 747-400 planes to Kabul for select days in the coming weeks, primarily to ferry cargo.

For at least seven days, the national carrier would fly the bigger Boeing aircraft instead of Airbus 320 plane.

It operates on Delhi-Kabul route four times a week.

Air India in the next few weeks plans to boost capacity to Afghanistan, currently serving Delhi-Kabul route four times a week.

According to an airline official, Boeing 747-400 -- which has more than 420 seats -- would be operated on May 18, 20 and 21. Besides, the plane would be deployed on June 10, 11, 17, 18 and 20.

Air cargo volumes surge in March 15 May 2017

The year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth in air cargo traffic in India has doubled to 18% in March 2017 as against 9% in February 2017.

"Cargo volumes have continued to maintain a positive growth trend over the last twelve months, translating into a healthy overall growth of 10% for FY2017,” according to Harsh Jagnani, Vice-President and Sector Head for Corporate Ratings, ICRA Limited.

In March 2017, the growth was driven by improvement in both domestic and international cargo volumes.
