Embraer ties up with Air India to set up MRO in Secunderabad 24 April 2017

Air India to set up a maintenance and repair MRO facility to maintain its brand of private and business jets in the entire South-East Asian region.

Airline sources said, Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), has been mandated this task under an initial pact signed recently.

They said, the proposed facility is expected to come up at the Begumpet airport in Secunderabad.

An Air India official said,“Embraer came to us because they are planning to sell 40 aircraft in the region by 2018 and they need to have a maintenance system in place for those planes.”

Yogi Adityanath govt. pushes for new airport in NCR 21 April 2017

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, said today at a press conference here, the BJP Government in UP has approached the Centre seeking technical evaluation for an airport in Jewar.

The State cabinet cleared the propsal for Jewar airport at a late night meeting recently.

Currently, the rules do not allow a new airport to come up within 150 kilometer (km) of an existing airport and the Jewar proposal could get stuck under this clause.

Meanwhile, the Minister said he discussed enhancing the capacity of Delhi airport with stakeholders today. From 67 now, Delhi airport can get to 95 flights an hour in 3 years, he added.

AirAsia to start double daily service on Kolkata-Ranchi-Delhi route 18 April 2017

AirAsia India, on Monday, launched a Kolkata-Ranchi-Delhi double daily flight.

The double daily service will take the Kolkata-Ranchi-Delhi route and return along the same route on the same day.

Director, Customer Experience and Ground Operations, AirAsia India, the company said in a release, the first departure from Kolkata was flagged off by Deepak Mahendra, Chief Financial Officer, AirAsia India, and Kesavan Sivanandam.

In Ranchi, Raghubar Das, Chief Minister, Jharkhand flagged off the first flight to New Delhi in the presence of Amar Abrol, MD & CEO, AirAsia India and Kiran Jain, Commercial Director, AirAsia India, it further added.

IndiGo to start 18 additional flights from June 15 April 2017

IndiGo today said it will operate 18 new additional flights, starting June, as part of its summer schedule.

The Gurgaon based airline, which currently operates over 900 flights, will add these flights to the existing routes, including Bengaluru—Delhi and Bengaluru—Hyderabad, a release said today.

The airline said that IndiGo will operate its 15th flight between Bengaluru and Delhi (to and fro), and 10th additional flight between Bengaluru and Hyderabad and Kolkata and Bengaluru (to and fro).

Besides, the carrier will also operate new additional flights from Ranchi, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, it said.

Essar Shipping cargo handling up 22% in FY17 13 April 2017

Essar Shipping Limited (ESL), on Wednesday, reported a strong operational performance with a 22% growth in cargo handling in FY2016-17, compared to the previous fiscal. During this period, the company’s 14-vessel fleet also grew its capacity utilisation from 80 to 94%.

The company said in a statement here, the Baltic Dry Index, a key indicator of freight rates, has also gone up by four times during FY16-17 from an all-time low of 290 (in February 2016) to a high of 1,300 (in March 2017).

IndiGo to start service from Mangaluru 13 April 2017

IndiGo will operate daily non-stop flights from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and Mumbai with effect from May 1.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Sanjay Kumar, Chief Commercial Officer of IndiGo, said it will operate two daily flights from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, and one daily flight to Mumbai.

Plans are there to operate a third daily flight to Bengaluru in the months to come, he said.

To a query about connecting other cities with Mangaluru, he said that the airline is planning to connect Mangaluru with Hyderabad and Delhi in the next two-three months.

Special fares by IndiGo for summer vacations 12 April 2017

IndiGo today announced special fares starting at INR 999 on domestic and international sectors during the summer vacations.

The airline said that the three-day special scheme commences today and will be offered till April 12. It will be applicable for travel between May 1 to June 30 on specific destinations.

The special fares will be offered on first-come-first-serve basis and will be non-refundable.

Air freight traffic up in Feb 2017 y-o-y 06 April 2017

A release said Air Freight traffic in the country increased to 239,700 million tonnes (mt) in February 2017, reporting a year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 9%, but lower than the 14% growth in January 2017.

HAL turnover rises 06 April 2017

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has posted profit before tax at INR 3,294 crore in fiscal 2016-17, registering 0.18% growth compared with last fiscal’s INR3,288 crore.

Though PBT was barely above last year’s level, the company posted the highest ever turnover of INR 17,406 crore for the fiscal under review, registering 4% annual growth from INR 16,736 crore in the previous fiscal.

The defence major has said it is “business as usual. with the company doing well on expected lines”.

IndiGo adds 35 new flights this summer 05 April 2017

IndiGo today announced introduction of 35 new flights as part of its summer schedule.

The new flights will be introduced between Amritsar-Jammu, Chennai-Bhubaneshwar, Chennai-Indore, Kolkata-Jammu, Srinagar- Kolkata, Bengaluru-Mangalore, Mumbai-Mangalore, Hyderabad- Thiruvananthapuram and Sharjah-Thiruvananthapuram, the airline said in a statement.

It added the airline will also increase frequencies from seven stations including, Ahmedabad, Goa, Chennai, Agartala, Amritsar, Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram. These flights are to be launched over the months of April and May.
