Pawan Hans to start Dilli Darshan chopper rides at INR 2,500 25 March 2017

Pawan Hans is set to launch its "Delhi Darshan" rides from next month with a 10-minute sortie costing INR 2,499 per person.

Besides, the state-owned aviation firm will also offer a 20-minute helicopter ride for INR 4,999.

The company's Chairman and Managing Director, B P Sharma, had at the inauguration of its first heliport in north Delhi's Rohini area announced the roll out of these services from April 1.

"Pawan Hans is commencing helicopter ride and helicopter Delhi Darshan from its state-of-the-art integrated Rohini Heliport."

SpiceJet to fly Kolkata-Dhaka daily 24 March 2017

SpiceJet, on Thursday, flagged-off its first daily direct flight services to Dhaka from Kolkata, making it the seventh international destination for the low-cost carrier.

The flight will help increase connectivity between Bangladesh and India, the carrier said in a release.

Travellers coming for medical and business purposes will also benefit from this new flight, it further added. SpiceJet will also look at providing onward connections to Bangkok, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Aizawl and Silchar via Kolkata to Dhaka.

Ethiopian Airlines adds Ahmedabad to its air cargo services 23 March 2017

Ethiopian Airlines today said it has added Ahmedabad in its freighter service network, its fifth cargo gateway to India.

At present, the airline operates cargo services to four Indian cities -- New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru-- from capital city Addis Ababa.

It said in a press statement, "Ahmedabad, India's second oldest stock exchange and largest producer of cotton, is an emerging economic and industrial hub of India, inhabiting a population of more than 6 million.”

AirAsia India announces two new routes 22 March 2017

AirAsia India today announced the induction of the ninth Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet, besides commencement of flight services to two new destinations, including Kolkata, from next month.

As part of its expansion plans, the company will commence daily flight services between Kolkata and Ranchi, besides connecting Ranchi with the national capital from April 15.

According to AirAsia, Kolkata will serve as its third hub after Bengaluru and New Delhi. At present, the budget carrier flies from 13 domestic airports.

Air India to launch direct flight from Amritsar to Birmingham 22 March 2017

Air India is looking to launch a direct flight service to Birmingham from Amritsar. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, Air India is examining modalities for launching this (Amritsar-Birmingham) flight.

The national carrier currently operates a flight from Amritsar to Birmingham via Delhi.

The airline has already announced its plans to add six new international destinations this year including Tel Aviv, Washington and Copenhagen, among others.

Government nod for 18 new airports 22 March 2017

According to Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, the government has given in-principle approval for setting up 18 airports at an estimated cost of about INR 30,000 crore.

The 18 airports which have received the nod include Mopa (Goa), Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra), Bijapur, Gulbarga, Hasan and Shimoga (Karnataka), Kannur (Kerala), Pakyong (Sikkim), Karaikal (Puducherry), Dholera (Gujarat) and Bhogapuram (Andhra Pradesh).

VOC Port handles record cargo traffic of 37 mt 20 March 2017

V O Chidambaranar Port (VOC) has handled record cargo traffic of 36.91 million tonnes (MT) so far, registering a growth of 4.77% over the same period last fiscal.

Ministry of Shipping said in a statement, "The port has handled a record traffic of 36.91 mt till March 17, 2017, with an impressive cargo growth at 4.77% as compared with the same period of last financial year.”

The cargo that contributed to this record performance includes, coal to NTPL (64.11%), wheat (433.61%), lime stone(8.37%), phosphoric acid (106.42%), fertilisers (16%), fertiliser raw materials (7.18%), construction materials (28.75%), and containerised cargo (5%), it said.

Airbus not looking to buy Pawan Hans stake 18 March 2017

Airbus is not looking at “buying directly” Pawan Hans Helicopter Limited (PHHL), the state owned helicopter operator in which the Government plans to divest its stake.

“We monitor who (will) be associated with it who will buy it. I think it will be an attractive proposition for investors.

Having said that we are not looking to buying directly,” Pierre de Bausset, President and Managing Director, Airbus India, said pointing out that Airbus manufactures helicopters but is not an operator of helicopters. The process of PHHL’s divestment has started with the Government seeking to appoint advisors for taking the process forward.

Aviation sector to become part of Multi-Modal Logistics hubs 17 March 2017

Road Transport and Highways & Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said that Aviation sector will now be a part of multi-modal logistics hubs in India to promote holistic logistics solutions.

At present highways, ports, inland waterways and railways are part of the planned multi-modal logistics hubs in India.

The new plan projects the logistics sector to grow to USD 360 billion by 2032 from the present USD 115 billion.

Delhi airport signs pact with Airbus for setting up flight simulator 17 March 2017

Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) has signed a land licence agreement with Airbus for setting up India’s first full flight simulator at the Aerocity Terminal District of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Airbus will set up full flight simulator on the 1.11 acre of land to address the growing demand of trained pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers. Airbus will also establish its India headquarters within the same development.

The land licence agreement between DIAL and Airbus India is valid for up to March 31, 2036.
