PPT to build satellite port at Jatadhari presently

The Port Day was celebrated with pomp by the Paradip Port Trust (PPT), where Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik attended as the chief guest, while State Health Minister Dr. Damodar Rout, Jagatsinghpur Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Bishnu Das and Jagatsinghpur MP Mr. Bibhu Prasad Tarai attended as distinguished guests. For the last few years, the Chief Minister had been skipping the function.

New PPT chairman Mr. Sudhanshu Sekhara Mishra requested Mr. Patnaik to take for granted the Paradip Port management as a Government department and give it as much importance. Mr. Mishra declared that with the cooperation from the State and the Central Governments, the PPT will construct a satellite port near Jatatadhari mouth to reduce the congestion of the Paradip Port. He also assured steps for solving various problems in the peripheral areas including of the slum dwellers. He promised to upgrade the present PPT Hospital to a super special hospital with all modern facilities. The Chief Minister in his speech assured all possible helps for the development of Paradip Port. Among others, MLA Mr. Das and PPT deputy chairman Mr. S . Anantha Chandra Bose spoke.

However, Mr. Tarai demanded regularization of DLR working in various departments of the port and rehabilitation of the Paradip slum dwellers. Minister Mr. Rout said the Port Day was meant to cherish the memories of rich cultural heritage of Odisha and not to discuss problems in the port area. Earlier, the Chief Minister and other guests visited all the berths of the port.

The programme was held at wet basin of PPT inside the port prohibited area. All the ships inside the port were decorated with flags. Also all the office buildings of State and Central governments and banks were decorated with lights. Later, the Chief Minister left to inaugurate the Chelitola Boita Bandana Utsav at Tirtol.
