AMI upgrades air cargo receiving, trucking in London and the North
AIR Menzies International (AMI), a trade only airfreight and express wholesaler, has reorganized its UK regional cargo receiving and trucking operations in London and in the North of England. The changes are designed to improve processing times to enable later close-outs and provide access to a larger number of next-day departures from London Heathrow. Outbound cargo from London Heathrow will be trucked by nightly road feeders operated by air freight trucking firm, Ware Transport. This service will offer later close-outs, and earlier arrivals at London Heathrow. In Manchester, the company has become self-handling and will move into a new dedicated 743-square meter unit. The on-airport facility, which is being refurbished and security systems upgraded, will be operational from mid-January. The Manchester branch handles 40% of the company's UK bookings, with 80% of this traffic flying direct from Manchester Airport. At both Leeds Bradford Airport and East Midlands Airport, the company is using handler WFS for receiving, while trucking to Manchester and London Heathrow is provided by Ware Transport. In Birmingham, the handler is Ware Transport located at its Gateway Estate receiving centre. "Manchester is our most important centre outside London, and we continue our long-held policy of supporting the airport's departures whenever possible," said European regional vice president Mr. Sharon Wright.
